DEI Initiatives and Resources
The Business Law Section is committed to encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Section by fostering a welcoming environment for all lawyers and promoting full and equal participation by all lawyers, including lawyers of color, women lawyers, 2SLGBTQIA+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities. This commitment is advanced through annual initiatives, special programming, and ongoing diversity guidelines.
Diversity Initiatives
Business Law Fellows Program
Each year, the Business Law Section appoints up to 12 diverse, outstanding lawyers to participate in two-year terms as Business Law Section Fellows. The program is designed to springboard participants into leadership roles within the Section by providing mentors, travel subsidies, and involvement opportunities.
Diversity Clerkship Program
The Diversity Clerkship Program provides business law clerkship placements for qualified diverse second year law students each summer. Participating clerks receive support and mentoring in the business law field and exposure to business practices. In addition to a placement in a business court clerkship, participants also receive a stipend of $3,000 to cover living expenses for the duration of the 8-week clerkship.
Jean Allard Glass Cutter
The Jean Allard Glass Cutter Award is presented annually to an exceptional woman business lawyer who has made significant contributions to the profession and the Business Law Section.
The Business Law Section aims to create an environment that fosters and embraces diversity and inclusion throughout Section programming. CLE program panels are planned to reflect the diversity of the ABA.
